Automating the bending process in Supron 3

Modernization of the work station at the hydraulic press: the rolling and bending process at Supron 3.

The manufacturing company Supron 3 is a leading manufacturer of fire protection equipment: internal hydrants, protective cabinets, fire hoses and personal fireman’s outfit. Thanks to tradition dating back to 1992 and a great variety of products, it has a high reputation among customers on the domestic market.

The main goal was to modernize the workstation at the hydraulic press, which is used in the process of rolling and bending details for cabinets, hinges and other metal accessories.

SOLUTION

Easy Robots programmers and designers analyzed the production processes at Supron 3 and recommended starting an improvement project.

parts container

double-sided drawers

profiled trays

As a result of the work, a station was created with a container for several hundred pieces of details that are processed. Robotic arm ES5 we placed above drawer magazine thanks to this, the required working space was reduced. The station's 4 drawers, equipped with profiled replaceable trays, allow employees to quickly replenish raw details. This process does not require stopping either the robot or the machine. Moreover, the employee does not have to supervise the operation of these devices until it is necessary to refill the detail trays.

rolling and bending process at an angle of 90 degrees

The project includes two applications for 4 different plate patterns. The first application is rolling, and the second is bending twice at an angle of 90 degrees.

The rolling process

The trays from which the robot takes the raw detail for rolling processing can be used for all 4 plate patterns that are made on the press. The ES5 manipulator moves the drawers aside and takes the output part from the tray, and then places it on the press brake die. The rolling process it has several stages. The robotic arm places the detail on various stages of the matrix until the finished element is obtained, which is then automatically dropped onto the conveyor.

The bending process

In the bending process at right angles Already rolled sheets are taken from the drawers and then fed to the press brake tool. Bending consists of two procedures, after which the robot collects the finished part from the machine and places it on the conveyor.

RESULTS

INCREASE IN SAFETY

Robotic bending has changed the current work model. Automation allows employees to focus on important tasks instead of routine activities, which may be prone to errors or even dangerous as the shift progresses and the operator becomes more tired.

ONGOING WORK

Not only was the execution time of a single process shortened, but also the detail trays used in the drawer magazine ensured continuity of work.

UNDER 35 SECONDS FOR THE FULL PROCESS

Even though increasing productivity was not a priority in this project, it was also possible to increase this indicator. The average resultant norm for an employee in the rolling process has so far been 45 seconds for one complete process, from raw detail to finished. It currently takes the robot less than 35 seconds.
